Lessons from the Sandbox: Curiosity

As adults, we can learn important lessons by watching children. One quality that kids are great at is being curious. In therapy, adapting a curious mindset can be helpful in establishing healthy connections with ourselves and others.

Be Curious:  Come open to investigate. To try out hypotheses and see how they turn out.

Be Open: Part of a hypothesis is that we are not sure of the outcome (though we have an idea of what it might be). Remaining open, helps us take in new or unexpected outcomes. Some might be better than we thought.

Be Collaborative: While it is helpful to come with possible solutions, remember that you do not necessarily hold all of the answers. Connecting with others involves getting their perspective and coordinating with their goals.
