Grief and Loss Therapy

Grief Doesn’t Follow a Schedule.

Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and it doesn't look the same for anyone. Sadness, guilt, anger, numbness and fear of the future can all show up, sometimes in the same hour.

At Journeys Therapy Center, we offer grief counseling in Bartonville, Texas, and by telehealth across Texas.

You don't have to carry this alone.

Who Grief and Loss Therapy Helps

Grief isn't only about death, and you don't need to be "struggling enough" to deserve support. People come to us after:

  • The death of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, friend or pet

  • A long illness, or the slow losses of caring for a loved one with dementia, Alzheimer's or a chronic condition

  • Divorce, estrangement or the end of an important relationship

  • Infertility or pregnancy loss

  • A major life change, such as a move, retirement, a lost career or a lost sense of faith or identity

If grief is affecting your sleep, your relationships or your work, or if you simply feel stuck, counseling can help. We work with teens, adults and families, and our play therapy services support younger children.

Our Approach: Your Story, Not a Script

Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations, but you shouldn't have to walk them by yourself. We don't believe grief has stages to complete or a deadline to meet. Our work starts with understanding your story: who or what you lost, what that relationship meant, and what this season of life is asking of you.

From there, we help you:

  • Make room for painful emotions without being overwhelmed by them

  • Understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck

  • Manage guilt, anger and "what if" thinking

  • Find ways to honor your loved one while rebuilding daily life

  • Strengthen the relationships and routines that support you

Sessions are honest, warm and judgment-free. The goal isn't to "get over" your loss. It's to carry it in a way that lets you live again

We meet you where you are, at your pace, without judgment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Grief and Loss Therapy

How long does grief last?
There's no standard timeline. Grief often softens over time but can resurface around anniversaries, holidays and milestones. Therapy helps you meet those moments with more support and less fear.

Is what I'm feeling normal?
Very likely. Grief is a part of the human experience. Grief can bring crying, anger, exhaustion, guilt, difficulty concentrating and even relief. Severe, long-lasting bereavement may be complicated grief. Whether your grief is normal or complicated, speaking to a therapist can help you process your experiene and find relief.

Do I need to have lost someone to see a grief counselor?
No. Losses like a diagnosis, a caregiving role, a relationship ending or a major life transition are real losses, and they deserve support.

Do you accept insurance, and do you offer telehealth?
Some of our clinicians are in network with plans including Aetna, Baylor Scott & White, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna. Curative, Evernorth, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare. Our office will verify your benefits and give you an estimated cost. Telehealth sessions are available when both you and your therapist are in Texas.

You don’t have to have the right words. Reach out when you’re ready, and we’ll take it from there.
