Relationship Counseling
Every Relationship Hits Hard Stretches.
You may be having the same argument on repeat, feeling more like roommates than partners, or wondering how to rebuild after a breach of trust.
At Journeys Therapy Center, we offer relationship counseling in Bartonville, Texas, and by telehealth across the state, to help you understand each other again and move forward together.
Who Relationship Counseling Helps
You don't need to be on the brink for counseling to help. Couples and partners come to us for:
Communication that keeps breaking down or turning into conflict
Rebuilding trust after betrayal or broken promises
Feeling distant, disconnected or stuck in a rut
Big transitions such as marriage, a new baby, a move, a career change or an empty nest
Stress from caregiving, illness or loss
Differences in values, faith, parenting or finances
Deciding whether to stay together, or ending a relationship with care
We also work with family relationships, such as parents and adult children, and with individuals who want help with a relationship pattern. If you're not sure counseling is right for you, a free consultation is a good place to start.
How We Help Couples Reconnect
Most couples don’t need a referee. They need a space where both people can slow down, be heard and understand what’s really going on beneath the arguments. We don’t take sides, assign blame or hand you a one-size-fits-all formula. Instead, we start with your story: how you met, what has changed, and what each of you needs now.
From there, we help you:
Spot the patterns that keep repeating, and break them
Say what you mean without starting a fight
Listen in ways that help your partner feel heard
Set healthy boundaries and respect each other's
Rebuild closeness, trust and appreciation
Make decisions together, even about hard topics
Sessions are honest, warm and judgment-free. The goal is not to "win" but to understand each other and make real, lasting change.
What Your First Few Months of Couples Counseling Look Like
A conversation first. Call or message us for a free consultation. Tell us what’s been happening, and we’ll match you with a therapist who fits your situation. Questions about scheduling, insurance or whether your partner is on board are welcome.
The first sessions: both voices heard. Your therapist will ask about your history, what brought you in and what each of you hopes will change. Expect to feel heard, not judged, and don’t worry if you see things differently. That’s common.
Building new habits. Sessions run about 50 minutes, in person at our Bartonville office or by secure telehealth. You’ll practice new ways to talk, listen and handle conflict, and you’ll take simple tools home to try between sessions.
Progress at your own pace. Many couples notice small shifts early, such as calmer conversations or a little more patience. Deeper trust and closeness take time, and your therapist will check in on your goals as you go.
Frequently Asked Questions About Relationship Counseling
Do we both have to attend?
Couples counseling works best when both partners take part. If your partner isn't ready, individual sessions can still help you with the relationship.
Is counseling only for couples in crisis?
No. Many couples come to strengthen communication, prepare for a life change or reconnect before small problems grow.
What if one of us is more hesitant?
That's common. A good counselor makes room for both voices and doesn't take sides. The free consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions first.
Will you help us decide whether to stay together?
We can help you think through the decision clearly and respectfully, without pushing you toward either outcome.
Do you accept insurance, and do you offer telehealth?
Some of our clinicians are in network with plans including Aetna, Baylor Scott & White, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Curative, Evernorth, Medicare, UnitedHealthcare and our office will verify your benefits and give you an estimated cost. Telehealth is available when both you and your therapist are in Texas.
