Individual Counseling

When the worry follows you everywhere…

Some weeks the worry follows you into the shower. Other times it is a decision you cannot settle, a loss that has not softened, or a quiet sense that life is running on autopilot.

Individual counseling at Journeys Therapy Center gives you a private hour with a counselor to sort it out, one on one and at your own pace. Sessions are available in person in Bartonville, TX and by telehealth anywhere in Texas.

What is individual counseling?

Individual counseling, also called individual therapy or talk therapy, is a confidential conversation between you and a counselor. Together you look at what is happening, how it is shaping your days, and what might help.

There is no script and no required topic. Some people arrive with a clear goal, such as easing panic or getting through a divorce. Others only know that something feels off, and the early sessions are for finding the words.

What can we work on together?

People start individual counseling for many reasons. Common starting points include:

•       Anxiety, worry and overthinking

•       Low mood, sadness and loss of motivation

•       Stress, burnout and feeling overwhelmed

•       Grief and major life changes

•       Relationship and family concerns

•       Self-esteem and self-doubt

•       Parenting stress and caregiver strain

•       Past experiences that still affect the present

If your reason is not on the list, bring it to your consultation call. We will talk through whether Journeys is the right fit or point you toward a better one.

What can I expect in my first session?

The first visit is mostly a conversation about you. Your counselor will ask what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you hope will change.

You will also go over paperwork, privacy and scheduling. By the end, you and your counselor will have a working plan: how often to meet, what to focus on first, and what to try between sessions if you want something to practice.

How our counselors work

Counselors at Journeys Therapy Center shape sessions around the person in the room rather than one method for everyone. [Add the approaches your counselors use, for example CBT or person-centered work. Confirm with the clinicians.] Sessions run [session length], and most clients meet [weekly or every other week]. Your counselor will suggest a rhythm that fits your goals and your calendar, and you can revisit it as things change.

Insurance and fees

Cost shapes whether counseling feels possible, so we keep that information easy to find. Our Insurance & Fees page explains how we handle insurance, session fees and payment.

Is it time to reach out?

There is no threshold you must cross before counseling is allowed. Still, a few signals tend to prompt the call: sleep or appetite has shifted for weeks, a worry takes up more room than the problem warrants, you are short with people you love, or you have stopped doing things you used to enjoy. A hard season such as a loss, a move, a new baby or a job change can be reason enough on its own. If you are unsure, a free consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions before deciding.

Individual Counseling FAQs

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Counseling is confidential, with a few legal exceptions. Your counselor will explain them at the start so you know exactly where the lines are.

How long does individual counseling take?

It depends on your goals. Some people meet for a few months to work on one concern, while others stay longer for ongoing support. You and your counselor will check in on progress regularly and can adjust the plan along the way.

What if I have never been to individual counseling before?

Most first-timers worry about saying the wrong thing. There is no wrong thing to say. Your counselor will lead with questions and move at your speed.

Do you accept insurance, and do you offer telehealth?
Some of our clinicians are in network with plans including Aetna, Baylor Scott & White, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna. Curative, Evernorth, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare. Our office will verify your benefits and give you an estimated cost. Telehealth sessions are available when both you and your therapist are in Texas.
